Given retains leadership of regional district board
A familiar face will once again head up the Regional District of Central Okanagan’s board of directors.
Kelowna city Coun. Gail Given was acclaimed as board chairperson during the inaugural meeting on Thursday. No other names were put forward by board members.
West Kelowna Mayor Gord Milsom was acclaimed as vicechairperson.
The City of Kelowna has seven representatives on the 13member board, reflecting the municipality’s dominant size within the Central Okanagan. As chairperson, Given will draw an annual salary of almost $48,000. That’s in addition to the $36,500 she gets paid for being a Kelowna city councillor.
The six other Kelowna councillors who sit on the regional board get a salary of $18,450 in addition to their council pay.
The regional board meets twice a month. In a recent 12-month period, three meetings lasted seven minutes, and two meetings were cancelled for lack of any agenda items.
The regional district has responsibility for area-wide services such as dog control, 911 and some parks.
