Mounties injured during arrest

-

A man was arrested and charged after allegedly injuring two police officers in Vernon on Tuesday.

A person who had been repeatedly asked to leave the Canadian Wholesale Club at 2501 34 St. became violent with police upon their arrival, said Const. Kelly Brett.

An officer attempted to speak with the man, but he became violent and a struggle ensued.

During the altercation, the suspect allegedly attempted to disarm the officer and produced a knife and bear spray.

In total, three officers were assaulted, two of whom were injured during the arrest, said Brett.

“Even after being injured, the responding officer was able to retain his weapon, keep himself, along with the public, safe and take the male into custody,” she said.

Kyle Larue, a 27-year-old of no fixed address, is facing numerous charges, including assault with a weapon, attempting to disarm a police officer, resisting arrest, obstructing a police officer and possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Larue appeared in court Wednesday and was released on a recognizance with numerous conditions.

He is scheduled to appear in court next on Nov. 22.
