————— Last month seven Westside businesses partnered with The Salvation Army in the inaugural Scare Hunger food drive.

“The shelves were getting low on some of our costlier and most needed items such as cereal, peanut butter and hearty soups,” said Lieut. Rob Henson of the West Kelowna Salvation Army, adding that local businesses were approached to see if they would help with a food drive leading up the Halloween.

The Salvation Army was thrilled with such a great response, thanks to support from Lifemark Physiotherapy, Oxygen Yoga and Fitness, New Image Salon, City Furniture, Interior Savings, Scotiabank and the Royal Bank, who each hosted a collection bin decorated with a scarecrow during October.

The Salvation Army operates a food bank for Central Okanagan residents and supports people from Lake Country to Peachland through their ofÀces in Rutland and Westbank.

Food bank guests can come for assistance up to six times per year, where they receive non-perishable items along with fresh produce and meat.

In 2018, the Salvation Army has also been able to offer bakery items thanks to donations from the Westside Save-On-Foods bakery and Westside Starbucks locations.

In addition to food support, guests are also supported with clothing, household items, mattresses, as well as spiritual and emotional care.

If your business is interested in participating in next year’s Scare Hunger Food Drive or if you would like to host a food collection bin leading up to Christmas, contact
