Carbon tax must be stopped

The Daily Courier - - OPINION -

Dear Editor: In the near future, the Canadian people will be faced with paying a federallyimposed carbon tax.

At the risk of offending all environmentalists, this tax is not based on science, but on emotion. Canada contributes only 1.6 per cent of the global carbon emissions and the vast forests that Canada has consumes enough carbon dioxide to more than offset these carbon emissions.

This means Canada is really a neutral contributor. This is never mentioned, but it certainly makes Justin Trudeau look good on the international stage. This tax must be stopped as it only takes disposable income out of the pockets of Canadians.

Our provincial NDP government is now proposing legislation mandating us to purchase electric cars. There is insufficient power generating capacity to accommodate such a plan. This bill is surprising given all the objections to new power plants. Where are the financial subsidies coming from to purchase electric cars? Again, from the taxpayers’ pockets.

We certainly need to question the wisdom of our provincial and federal governments as they seem to be selfserving. Rudie Harder Kelowna
