Family grateful for food bank

- By DAVID TRIFUNOV

Payten has this Christmas thing figured out this year -- mostly.

The three-year-old Kelowna girl is all about Paw Patrol and taking care of her new baby sister, Nevaeh.

She’s also all about getting the big day over with, mom Caitlyn says.

“This year, she finally understands what’s happening,” mom said just a few days before Christmas. “Payten is excited. She keeps wanting to open the gifts.”

The holidays are exciting for Caitlyn and her husband, Eugene, with eight-month-old Nevaeh joining them.

And while the infant has had some health concerns that took them to B.C. Children’s Hospital, the new addition is happy and energetic.

“Payten is always by her side,” Caitlyn said. “She always makes Nevaeh laugh.”

Yet, as exciting as Christmas is with a new baby, it comes with some stress. Caitlyn is on maternity leave from her job as a hairstylist. Eugene is working, however, they are struggling to make ends meet, especially as food prices continue to rise.

It’s what took them to the Central Okanagan Food Bank for help. They are one family you can help by donating to Be an Angel.

Caitlyn is thankful for the food bank. She says “it’s terrible when you think you can’t provide for your family.”
