Telemark biathlete medals at Canada Games

-

RED DEER — Team BC athlete and Telemark’s biathlete Natalie Benoit is coming home with a bronze medal after a strong showing at the Canada Winter Games in Alberta.

Benoit placed seventh in the sprint, eighth in pursuit and earned her bronze in a relay event.

To complete her week, Benoit turned in another top 10 finish in the final race, the Individual, with a ninth-place finish.

Her next competition will be on the home field at Telemark, Saturday and Sunday as Telemark hosts BC Cup races. More than 100 biathletes from across the province, midgets to masters, will be competing. Telemark welcomes volunteers and spectators.

It’s been an outstanding season so far with Telemark Biathlon bringing home the hardware from B.C. Cups held in Prince George earlier this month.

In Prince George, Benoit (youth women), who’s from Summerland, raced to a first-place finish in the 10kilometre individual and placed second in the 7.5-km sprint event.

Kira Friesen took top spot in both the senior girls individual and sprint races. Junior boy Alex Rozek just missed a podium, coming in fourth in the individual race and seventh in the sprint.

In Quesnel, Friesen replicated her PG results with first-place finishes in the individual and sprint.

Enzo Fershau (junior boy) finished second in the individual and first in Sunday's sprint.

Timur McNern earned fourth-places finished both days.

Fershau and McNern competed earlier this month in Lake Placid, NY at the International children’s winter games where McNern collected a set of bronze, silver and gold medals.

Alex Rozek raced to seventh-place finishes in both his races in Quesnel.

Telemark will host a demo day on March 10. That’s your chance to get on the mat, try your hand at precision shooting with the help of our knowledgeable coaches. You can then take part in a real race afterwards.

It’s just $20 to participate. If you’d like more info, check the website or call Murray Carlson at 250-808-4511.
