League lauds Hardman, again, with 2nd team all-star selection

For the second time in as many days, West Kelowna Warriors forward Mike Hardman has earned a prestigiou­s league award.

Hardman was named a secondteam BCHL all-star on Thursday two days after earning the Bob Fenton Trophy as the league’s most sportsmanl­ike player.

“He’s made a huge impact on our team on and off the ice,” coach Brandon West said.

Hardman scored 39 goals and added 33 assists this season alongside just 16 penalty minutes.

The 20-year-old from Hanover, Mass., is committed to Boston College for next season.

Two members of the Penticton Vees were named to the BCHL first team.

James Miller and Jack LaFontaine, earlier this week named the league’s top defenceman and goaltender, respective­ly, were among the six players named to the all-star team.

Other members of the team, as selected from a survey of the league’s broadcaste­rs, were Victoria Grizzlies forward Alex Newhook and defenceman Carter Berger, and forwards Ryan Brushett (Powell River Kings) and Kevin Wall (Chilliwack Chiefs).

Newhook was also the league MVP and scoring champion, Brushett led the league in goals and Berger led all defencemen in points.

Second all-star team selections were goaltender Logan Neaton and defenceman Layton Ahac from the Prince George Spruce Kings; forwards Hardman, Nick Granowicz (Merritt Centennial­s) and Matt Holmes (Chilliwack Chiefs) and defenceman Aiden Hansen-Bukata of the Nanaimo Clippers.

Members of the BCHL all-rookie team were forwards Wall and Holmes from the Chiefs and Kent Johnson of the Trail Smoke Eaters; defencemen Nick Bochen (Prince George) and Pito Walton (Coquitlam Express) and goalie Aidan Porter of the Vernon Vipers. —
