London Drugs steps in to keep Girl Guide cookie sales going
London Drugs is lending a hand to Girl Guides of Canada by offering space in their 82 stores across Western Canada to distribute Girl Guide cookies.
Spring is usually the time Girl Guides sell their chocolate and vanilla sandwich cookies door to door or in front of local businesses.
But with the COVID-19 pandemic, door-to-door and storefront sales were cancelled to keep the girls safe.
Girl Guides of Canada have 800,000 boxes of the familiar chocolate and vanilla cookies to sell, with 17,000 boxes of cookies on the Westside.
“Since 1927, Girl Guides have been going doorto-door selling cookies to support our wide range of programs for girls and young women in our communities,” said Diamond Isinger, provincial commissioner for BC, Girl Guides of Canada. “With physical distancing being so critical in Canada right now, we know door-to-door and public sales are not an option at this time, and we need to get creative.
London Drugs has come forward with the offer to provide significant logistical support to safely get our cookies into the homes of British Columbians and we couldn’t be more grateful.”
Cookies sell for $5 a box and money raised from cookie sales goes to guiding programs and activities, camps and events in our community and across the country.
London Drugs is providing a safe distribution network.
All sales of the cookies will go directly to Girl Guides of Canada.
You can find London Drugs on the Westside at 2151 Louie Dr.
London Drugs is offering the first hour Monday to Friday exclusively for seniors. Health care workers and first responders will have exclusive store access from 8 to 9 p.m. Monday to Saturday and 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday.
Girl Guide cookies will also be available online at londondrugs.com.
