Ignorance at local dog park

- CeliaHanvold,Kelowna

DEAR EDITOR:

I will try to stay as positive as possible in these times of a pandemic, protests, and politics; seems trivial that I am about to write about dog poop.

One of the activities my husband and I like to do during this time of social distancing is take a coffee to the off-leash dog park, sit in our vehicle or wander the perimeter of the park, and watch the dogs. (Our dog has been gone for a few years now.) The other day we were so dismayed at a lady’s behaviour. (I use the term “lady” lightly.) She arrived at the dog park, her two dogs bounding out with joy, off they go. Within minutes, both her dogs had to do their business. Her back was conveniently turned to them, after a glance over her shoulder.

I’m sure she was thinking “I don’t think anybody noticed this.”

My husband wanted to go and pick it up and put the bags by her vehicle. I sheepishly said, “let’s not get involved, she may really not have noticed.” (Even though a dog generally goes within 10 minutes of entering a dog park.)

So, trying to continue the joy of watching the four legged pleasures, the odd displeasure of the two legged kind, one of her dogs goes No. 2 again. This time she had to go to the site, as she was facing the event. She was taking out a doggie do bag as she was crossing the park.

I said to my husband, “see, she saw it this time.” Well, she walked up to it, still trying to open the bag, looked back across the field, no one was facing her, she put the empty bag back in her pocket and walked away. So disgusting of you lady, in the grey coat and red car! Thanks for abusing a facility most of us try to respect.
