VANCOUVER (CP) — Environment Canada has issued wind warnings for parts of Vancouver Island and the B.C. coast, while snowfall warnings were in place in the eastern Interior.

The department on Monday forecast strong winds for most of Vancouver Island, the southern Gulf Islands, Haida Gwaii, Sunshine Coast, Central Coast and North Coast.

It said a strong Pacific front was to approach Haida Gwaii overnight Monday and bring winds with gusts of 90-110 km/h to the North Coast, Central Coast and north Vancouver Island by today.

Winds of 70-90 km/h are expected for east and west Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast starting late this morning and persisting into the evening.

The forecaster warns high winds may cause tree branches to break or toss loose objects into the air,.

Meanwhile, a frontal system moving across the B.C. Interior was expected to bring heavy snow to the North Columbia and Kinbasket regions.
