MATT DAMON’S TOP 10 MOVIES

- BY JAY BOBBIN

“Ford v Ferrari” (2019): Damon does some of the best work of his career as Carroll Shelby, the real-life driver turned car designer who helped develop a vehicle for Ken Miles (Christian Bale) to race for the Ford automotive company.

“The Martian” (2015):

Damon skillfully holds the screen by himself for much of this engrossing saga of an astronaut mistakenly thought dead and left behind on Mars.

“Invictus” (2009): An Oscar nomination confirmed Damon’s excellence as a South African rugby team captain in Clint Eastwood’s drama.

“The Informant!” (2009):

Damon’s collaboration with “Ocean’s” series director Steven Soderbergh also pays off big for this true, seriocomic story of a hugely unreliable government witness.

“Ocean’s Thirteen” (2007):

Always amusing as the crime gang’s relative nerd, Damon is especially funny while paired with Ellen Barkin here.

“The Departed” (2006): Damon and Leonardo DiCaprio trade off perfectly as impostors on opposing sides of the law in Martin Scorsese’s Oscarwinning “Infernal Affairs” remake.

“The Bourne Identity” (2002): For those who might think Damon is too baby-faced to be convincing as novelist Robert Ludlum’s rugged, amnesiac spy, minds will be changed.

And quickly.

“The Talented Mr. Ripley” (1999): Damon lets his innocent looks work for him as a schemer who’s out to assume a privileged slacker’s life.

“Saving Private Ryan” (1998):

In a role he shares with an older actor in the title character’s later years, Damon drives home the ultimate point of Steven Spielberg’s intense World War II drama.

“Good Will Hunting” (1997):

Not only convincing playing the high-IQ janitor, Damon (along with pal and co-star Ben Affleck) also shows his Oscar-winning writing skills here.
