A Vernon homeowner was threatened by an intruder with a firearm, police say.

The man returned to his home on Mountridge Road last Friday about 8:20 a.m. to find a person inside his garage. The intruder pulled a firearm, then ran away and drove off in a black SUV.

Police immediately combed the area, but couldn't find the suspect.

“We appreciate the emotional impact this event may have had on those involved and are thankful that no one was injured,” Vernon RCMP Const. Chris Terleski said in a release.

“Be assured every effort is being made to identify and find those responsible,” Terleski said.

The suspect is described as an Indigenous man, who was wearing black clothing, a black ballcap, and a bandana covering his face.
