French immersion decision delayed

- By Westside Weekly Staff

A decision on which high school Westsiders will attend for French immersion in 2022 has been delayed by the school district.

The options are Mount Boucherie Secondary in West Kelowna and Kelowna Secondary.

At a meeting last week, trustees agreed to postpone a decision until at least June.

"There really isn't an urgent need to make a decision, so it's been deferred," board chair Moyra Baxter said Thursday.

By the spring, the district may know if the provincial government is going to fund its top capital priority — a new high school in West Kelowna.

Such announcements usually come in March, Baxter said.

A new West Kelowna high school would include a French immersion program, so students currently enrolled at Glenrosa Middle School and George Pringle Elementary wouldn't have to cross into Kelowna to continue their studies.
