New Kelowna brewery hopes customers will bring their dogs

- By Daily Courier Staff

Dogs and their thirsty human friends will be welcome when a new brewery opens in downtown Kelowna.

Unleashed Brewing, at the northwest corner of Clement Avenue and Ethel Street, will have room for 99 people indoors and 30 people on an outdoor patio.

“We will create a variety of traditional and unconventional beers, all in a space that can be enjoyed by the whole family — dogs included!” the company says in promotional material.

“We've recently marked our territory within the brewery district of Kelowna’s north end and plan to open (soon),” the company says.

Next Tuesday, Kelowna city council is expected to endorse Unleashed Brewing's application to have patrons buy and drink the company’s beer on the premises.

“The desire of the owners is to make this establishment dogthemed, and to provide support to local animal shelters and provide better education and safer homes for rescue dogs,” Birte Decloux, the brewery’s agent, writes in a letter to the city.

Hours of operation will be 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday to Thursday, and 9 a.m. to midnight on Friday and Saturday.

However, outdoor drinking will have to end every night at 10 p.m. to “limit noise nuisance and be a good neighbour,” city planners write in a report to council.
