OKANAGAN ARTISTS DELIVERED TO YOU
Watch them in your pajamas
I have got in the bad habit of associating being at home with having my pyjamas on. If I do go out in public or visit my mum, I make an effort to look presentable, but upon arrival home, I march straight up stairs to my closet put on my pyjamas and continue with whatever I was up to, which is usually cooking, reading or watching something on my TV or laptop.
I am so grateful for the internet and the innovative uses to keep the arts alive through it.
Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre is doing just that with its Focus Online Series which celebrate the artists of the Okanagan Valley.
The series will air every two weeks and with just over 1,200 viewers reported to watch the premiere.
Tomorrow’s series 2 might just break the internet with a exciting lineup of talent that includes the angelic voice of Julliard-trained opera singer Melina Schein, the spectacular jazz chops of Gerry Sholomenko and Neil Fraser, Vernon singer/songwriter Shaughnessy, as well as songwriter, guitarist, singer Gord Wilson, who is based in Lake Country, and although his music leans towards hard rock, his ballads of lonely refrain dig at my heartstrings.
The whole show is approx. 18 minutes and will air from tomorrow to Sunday. Streaming information links are through ticketseller.ca. There is no admission fee, but donations are accepted.
I might wear my workout wear for that show and get some steps in.

The Salt and Brick restaurant opened on Bernard Avenue in 2017 and has created a reputation for serving unique, well thought-out plates of food that change according to what is seasonally available while pairing and serving local wines from smaller local wineries off the beaten track.
This type of dedication and a strong fan-base for Chef James Holmes food has caught the attention of the Food Network television channel and the restaurant and will be featured on Big Food Bucket List hosted by John Catucci.

Last year, a British friend of mine began her studies in Ayurveda, which translates to “knowledge of life,” and that piqued an interest with me when she shared her acquired knowledge on Facetime chats about the power inside of us to heal or help ourselves.
I made an appointment with local Ayurveda practitioner Erica Mueller who diagnosed a digestion problem and through that knowledge, I am more aware of what I need to do and what signs to be aware of.
Mueller is hosting a webinar with filmmaker Gita Desai, who will be chatting about her documentary, “Ayurveda Unveiled – art and science of a life well lived.”
The hour-long webinar, which begins Thursday at 5 p.m., will consist of a live conversation with Desai and Mueller about the vision, passion and journey behind the making of the film.
The discussion will be interspersed with glimpses/clips from the five-hour documentary itself. Viewers will also be able to participate in the Q&A.
Contact Mueller at ericamuel@gmail. com and she will send you the link.

The Okanagan Symphony Orchestra has teamed up with Unicorns.LIVE! to give us two beautifully filmed concerts. The first being an hour-long performance for small orchestra entitled Water Music – which features selections from G.F. Handel’s iconic suite of the same name, and an innovative work by Canadian composer Kevin Lau entitled “Writ in Water.”
The performance will be streamed live from the Kelowna Community Theatre at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Water Music tickets are $25 plus GST and include a twofor-one tasting experience voucher for Peak Cellars.
The second concert on Saturday at 2 p.m., perfect for children and families, celebrates the music of nature — water, fire, large and small animals, and the sun and the moon. The Nature of Music will be a fun way for the whole family to experience symphonic music. Tickets are $15 plus GST.
Tickets for both events can be purchased through watch.unicorns.live/ authors/oso. Following the live-streamed event, the recording will be available as video-on-demand will be available for 30 days.
This company creates excellent quality in sound and vision, which is perfect for this type of concert. I have worked with the film crew at Unicorns Live and I know them professional, knowledgeable and the best part of it, they are really nice guys to work with. You will not be disappointed.
