The Daily Courier

What happened to trusting us?

- DEAR EDITOR:

I would like to share with my fellow readers a message I just sent to our prime minister, as well as my MP and MLA. I realize this is a controversial issue but hearing from faithful Daily Courier subscribers is important in my opinion:

Dear Mr Stewart MLA,

This is a copy of the message I just sent to PM Trudeau and our MP Dan Albas. I realize this is a federal matter, but urge you to lobby on behalf of many thousands of us proud British Columbians.

“My husband and I have been living in our modest winter home in Nayarit, Mexico, since end of November. We have rebooked our flights home for May 1 when air travel north is reinstated. Paying for a test before departure and submitting to a second on arrival in Vancouver is an understandable precaution. We are ready to quarantine at home in West Kelowna, as we did last April. What happened to trust in your fellow citizens? We have always obeyed the law but this measure puts into question our democracy. We are not on vacation, this is our home. As pensioners this is essential travel home, but paying for the hotel stay is prohibitively expensive for some. I trust this measure will be reviewed and dropped by your government on or before April 30.” Pauline and Paul Landry,

West Kelowna applications they were told just to pay anyway and we will deal with it later. We now know there will be no repayments. “Hard working” 80-plus year olds received CERB, hundreds of millions went to 15-17 year old living at home with their parents and drug dealers got their clients to claim leading, in part, to a spike in overdose deaths. Trudeau’s handling of the vaccine supply (or lack of it) has cost Canadians dearly in lives, health care and the economy due to lockdowns. As a taxpayer I am furious at the Liberal government’s priorities when spending massive amounts of our money.
