I am right, you’re wrong

- DEAR EDITOR: Scott Wilson, Kelowna

I’m so sick of our Prime Minister, and my opinion is politically unbiased.

I vote for the party I think has the best leader. I’ve voted Liberal federally many times. The only time I ever voted for Stephen Harper was in 2015 when the choice was Justin Trudeau.

I think the only reason he ever got elected to even be a Member of Parliament is because of his last name. Nothing else. He is economically incompetent to be our PM and has he head wedged so high up his arse over climate change he can focus on almost nothing else.

The only thing he can do is be the Golden Goose and run up deficits, which of course we have to do right now with the COVID pandemic but his largesse in this regard will have our kids and their kids on the hook for it for their whole lives probably.

As soon as he was elected PM in 2015 he signed off on the health accord with the provinces so he could wash his hands with regards to the health of Canadians. Our health care system has been teetering for years and the COVID crisis has highlighted this in spades just how poorly we have been looking after our elderly.

His response to getting Canadians vaccines to COVID-19 has been atrocious. Our country is getting kicked in the ass at getting people vaccinated compared to the USA which per capita is far ahead of us. And we are falling further and further down that vaccinations per capita list. That heinous inhuman blob called Donald Trump actually opened the research financing floodgates to get a vaccine developed fast through Operation Warp Speed. What did Trudeau do?

He initially refused multiple

Canadian pharmaceutical companies funding for vaccine research. When he finally got his act together well of course Canada is near the back of the queues. Manitoba’s now going it on their own. Now he’s going to take vaccines from our COVAX contribution to the developing nations whom can’t afford their own. Shame on him for that. I’m a health-care provider and have had my first Pfizer vaccine shot but am now nine days overdue for the booster with no date in sight to get the second shot. But I don’t care about my vaccine status. I’ve been working with COVID suspected/positive patients frequently at KGH since March, either in the ER or the COVID designated floor. Since March, so I can wait. I care about Canadians getting vaccinated, especially our elderly whom built this country for us and deserve far better.

And I care about our health care system. Trudeau is incompetent and I’d debate that with anybody. Ever notice how when he is asked a pertinent question on his governing that he tends to give a total bafflegab non answer of crap. People say to me if not Trudeau then who, and I say I’d vote for a dead monkey over Trudeau for PM. Time to pink slip Trudeau!

ASHFORD, Conn. — Investigators said Tuesday they don’t believe arson was responsible for last week’s fire that destroyed a large section of Paul Newman’s Hole in the Wall Gang Camp for seriously ill children.

The fire marshal’s office in Ashford said the investigation was continuing, but told the Hartford Courant that dogs had not detected any signs of an accelerant in the rubble and there were no footprints in the snow around the buildings that burned.

The camp, which had only online programming last summer because of the coronavirus pandemic, plans to reopen with a limited schedule this year, said Ryan Thompson, a spokesperson for the charity.

“I can say that we still plan to resume on-site and residential family programming at camp this spring and host eight, four-day family camps this summer,” he said. “All the programming will, of course, be modified to ensure a safe experience for all amid the COVID-19 pandemic.”

An automated fire alarm alerted authorities to the blaze which broke out just before 5 p.m. on Friday. It destroyed two of the camp’s buildings, including a large wood-frame structure that was made to look like the centre of an old western town. Different sections of the building were constructed to look like separate buildings, housing different programs, such as arts and crafts and the camp store.

Travellers and the Travelers Championship PGA golf tournament have pledged to match up to $1 million in donations to help the camp rebuild.

The camp, with extensive medical facilities on site, was founded by Newman in 1988 in the woods of eastern Connecticut, to provide summer camping experiences adapted for children with serious physical and medical limitations. It has a Western motif inspired by the late actor’s movie “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.”

The charity also runs outreach programs for children in more than 40 hospitals, clinics and other settings in the Northeast, serving more than 20,000 children each year.

The camp is funded in part through proceeds from the sale of “Newman’s Own” brand products.
