WILLIAM HURT’S TOP 10 MOVIES
“Mr. Brooks” (2007): The movie may not succeed as a whole, but Hurt stands out as the sinister alter ego who appears only to the title character (Kevin Costner) ... and coaches him in murder.
“Lost in Space” (1998): While he certainly has done deeper projects, it’s fun to watch Hurt in this big-budget update of the classic sci-fi series.
“The Accidental Tourist” (1988): In one of his multiple teamings with director Lawrence Kasdan, Hurt plays a travel writer coping with the death of his son while getting involved with an offbeat dog trainer (Oscar winner Geena Davis).
“Broadcast News”
(1987): Suited to the role flawlessly, Hurt plays a network newscaster who questions his own qualifications for the job while falling for a driven producer
(Holly Hunter).
“Children of a Lesser God” (1986): A superb match for co-star Marlee Matlin, who earned an Academy Award in returning from the stage production, Hurt plays a teacher of the deaf.
“Kiss of the Spider Woman” (1985): An Oscar for best actor was Hurt’s reward for playing a prisoner in a South American jail.
“The Big Chill” (1983): As part of an ideal acting ensemble, Hurt plays a cynical drug peddler reunited with college friends for a peer’s funeral.
“Body Heat” (1981):A perfect-for-the-part Hurt plays a shady lawyer dangerously involved with a trophy wife (a smoldering Kathleen Turner).
“Eyewitness” (1981):
A sympathetic Hurt fares very well as a custodian who woos an ambitious television reporter (Sigourney Weaver).
“Altered States” (1980): Hurt made a movie debut splash in Paddy Chayefsky’s (under a pseudonym) story of a researcher
toying with sensory deprivation.
