Chopper cops tracked a stolen truck from above before Kelowna RCMP intercepted the vehicle near the corner of KLO Road and Benvoulin Road on Monday afternoon.

Cornered by police, the driver tried to speed off, striking several police cruisers and civilian vehicles in the process.

“Our officers did a great job in attempting to mitigate the risk in this incident,” police said in a news release. “Though there was some damage to vehicles, no one was injured and two suspects are in custody.”

The vehicle, reported stolen out of Alberta, was first spotted by Kelowna RCMP last week. An attempt was made then to pull the driver over but he refused to stop and police did not pursue out of concern for public safety.

The search was resumed Monday, with officers in unmarked vehicles first locating the stolen truck.

The vehicle’s movements were then observed by police in an RCMP helicopter, who relayed the information to their comrades on the ground.
