KAMP, Greta Mary

Greta passed away suddenly on March 17, 2023 at the age of 75. Greta was born December 19, 1947 in Blairmore, Alberta. She spent her childhood riding horses in the beautiful foothills of Beaver Mines, Pincher Creek and Waterton Lakes. Greta was an amazing artist and her admiration for nature and animals, as well as her sensitivity to conservation have been a constant inspiration for her art. Greta majored in art at the U of C, and studied advanced oil painting at the Alberta College of Art and Design. She became a member of the Calgary Sketch Club. Numerous pen and ink drawings of Calgary’s historical buildings were published monthly in the Calgary Albertan. In 1976 her painting of the Okotoks train station was chosen for the Annual Limited Edition Canadian Plate. In 2000 Greta won the McAra Award, and prints of her heritage paintings were distributed internationally. FCA awarded two of her paintings the “jurors choice” and won “peoples choice”. Her work was regularly accepted into the Calgary Stampede Western Art Auction. Greta became a member of the Lake-to-Lake Studio Tour, Naramata Art Studio, Summerland Art Gallery, Okanagan Artisans and Nest and Nectar. In 2014 she was commissioned by Liquidity Winery for 12 paintings. She was runner up in BC FWL Artist of the Year. Her paintings are currently located in private, corporate and international collections. In May 1994, Greta married Ken Kamp in Calgary, Alberta. They moved to Penticton, BC, in 2004. Here she continued her love of painting, while also enjoying playing golf, pickleball, gardening, and going for long walks. Greta is survived by her loving husband Ken, brother Robert (Sandy), brother Brian (Cindy), two grandchildren, Evan and Liam, and many other family members.
