Leaving a Legacy of Hope

-

Mary’s remarkable journey serves as a shining example of the incredible impact your generous gift can have on the lives of people experiencing acute need in our community. Imagine being 72 years old, trying to make ends meet on a fixed income, and suddenly finding yourself evicted from your home. That was the harsh reality that Mary faced. Unable to afford the soaring rental prices in the current housing market, she was left with no option but to spend months alternating between living in a rundown motel and sleeping in her car. It was a challenging and uncertain time for Mary.

But then, the temperatures plummeted to below -25°. It was right in the midst of that deep freeze that Mary showed up at Kelowna’s Gospel Mission in tears. Fortunately, she had heard about Selah-1, our long-term residence specifically designed to provide support to women in need. It was there that Mary discovered a ray of hope—a place where she could find the support, and safety she desperately needed to rebuild her life. Today, Mary not only has a safe, affordable place to live; she has a community to support her on her journey. Mary has found a place to call home!
