Summer activities abound in latest city program guide

- The Daily Courier Staff

Kelowna’s summer activity and program guide is online now at kelowna.ca/recreation. The guide offers hundreds of ways for residents of all ages and abilities to stay active, explore their creativity or learn something new.

“Summer is Kelowna’s time to shine, and we have dozens of indoor and outdoor programs to help you enjoy the sunny days, or to help cool off when it’s too hot to be outside,” said Mariko Siggers, the city’s community services manager. “We have options for everyone in every neighbourhood, from fitness classes and sports leagues to art lessons and dance courses.”

Aquatics and water activities are always popular with residents, said Siggers, and summer camps with a range of themes get booked up quickly too. To avoid missing out on the activities you want, she recommended setting up an account with the city before registration starts.

“For the really popular programs like aquatics, have your account set up in advance and remember what your password is and be ready to go when aquatics registration opens at 7 a.m. on June 8,” she said.

Dozens of summer camps for kids take place at locations around the city. They’re week-long, full-day or half-day and feature sports, art and lots of other themes.

Summer registration opening dates and times vary. General program registration begins June 6 at 7 a.m. Adult sports and leagues begin June 7 at 7 a.m., except slopitch which is already open. Aquatic & first aid programs begin June 8 at 7 a.m. Programs for persons with DiverseAbilities begin June 9 at 10 a.m.

If you want to register online and you don’t have an account, go to rec.kelowna.ca and select the New Customer feature.

You can also register by phone by calling 250-469-8800 or in person at Parkinson Recreation Centre, 1800 Parkinson Way.
