Dagg and Zibrik dynasty take home third straight title at tournament
The Jeff Dagg and Dave Zibrik Tournament of Champions dynasty continues for another year as the team from Point Grey Golf and Country Club took home their third straight title at the event. With a 9-under score of 63 in the best ball tournament, the duo squeaked out a one-stroke victory over Shadow Ridge Golf Club’s Mark Kitts and Justin Faasse.
The tournament was a best ball format, with teams made up of a club professional and club champion. With 41 teams competing, it was one of the larger fields in tournament history. The weather was incredible, with warm sunshine and cool breezes welcoming the competitors.
Dagg and Zibrik had never played the course before the practice round, but were not fazed by the new environment and large field. They said they were impressed by the beauty of Gallagher’s Canyon.
“The course is in good condition, weather was great and the greens were rolling fast. We were feeling really good out there,” said Dagg.
The pair played a steady round, keeping their composure and not letting themselves get overconfident. Zibrik said that when Dagg sunk his birdie putt to go 9-under par, he started to feel pretty assured of the victory.
Dagg and Zibrik are good friends and have continued with the same team for years. They said their chemistry and easygoing attitude helped them claim the victory.
“For us to partner up three years in a row and be able to win it in different conditions, different golf courses ... seems like we have a really strong pairing,” said Zibrik.
Competitors were awarded a wide range of premium PING Canada products, including a new set of PING i525 irons awarded to Dagg, the winning amateur.
The PGA of B.C. said it is grateful for PING Canada’s generosity, and to PING Canada representatives Adrian Deakin and Terry Graham for their presence and kindness all day.
The association says they would like to thank Gallagher’s Canyon head professional Lee Alarie and the entire staff for their hospitality and hard work.
“We were treated to an amazing round of golf and a phenomenal meal, all at a picturesque location. It truly was a perfect start to the PGA of B.C. championship season.”
The next tournament is the seniors’ and assistants championships presented by Rolo Golf and Replay Golf Supplies.
This event will take place June 19-20 at Chilliwack Golf Club.
