Legendary rock band Nazareth has been announced as the main act for opening day of the Penticton Peach Festival on Wednesday, Aug. 7, presented by Peters Bros. Construction.
Opening for them will be the award-winning Phonix Dance Band, presented by the Penticton Lakeside Resort.
“We’re thrilled to welcome the legendary Nazareth and the phenomenal Phonix Dance Band to the Penticton Peach Festival. This promises to be an epic night of music and celebration, setting the tone for an unforgettable Peach Festival,” said
Peachfest president Shawna Tinga.
Nazareth, the iconic rock band that pioneered Scottish rock internationally, will bring their timeless hits and energetic stage presence to Penticton. With a career spanning over five decades, Nazareth has become one of the world’s premier rock bands, leaving an indelible mark on the music scene.
The band’s journey began in 1970 when the original members joined forces and changed their name to Nazareth. Their breakthrough album, “Razamanaz” (1973), produced by Roger Glover of Deep Purple, featured chart-toppers like “Broken Down Angel” and “Bad Bad
Boy.” Subsequent releases, including “Loud’n’Proud” and “Rampant,” solidified their global popularity.
The band reached superstardom in 1975 with “Hair Of The Dog” and “Love Hurts,” which topped charts worldwide.
Nazareth has since recorded 23 studio albums, earning three platinum and eight gold albums in Canada alone. Their latest masterpiece, “Rock’n’Roll Telephone” (2014), continues to showcase the band’s enduring musical prowess.
The current lineup comprises Jimmy Murrison, the longest-serving guitarist in the band’s history, Lee Agnew, Pete Agnew (founding member) and Carl Sentance, who joined the band in 2015. Sentance’s powerful vocals seamlessly complement the band’s rich legacy.
Opening the stage for Nazareth will be Phonix Dance Band.
This award-winning party band boasts Grammy, JUNO, and CCMA award-winning members who have shared stages with musical icons including Quincy Jones (We Are the World), The Village People (YMCA), Bif Naked, Jo Jo Mason and Hey Ocean.
The Phonix Dance Band is a nine-piece powerhouse, delivering a diverse set list that spans from classic hits of the 50s to today’s Top 40 chart-toppers.
Their energetic stage presence and range of genres, from funk to pop, ensures a night of non-stop dancing and excitement.
