It’s humans versus monsters in New Playstation game

- SASCHA HEIST HE’S GOT GAME

Stellar Blade is the first console game from the developer Shift Up and creates a can’t-miss action adventure full of rich story and combat to rival any AAA developer.

Stellar Blade is no slouch in the visual department, the environments created by Shift Up are rich in detail.

Earth, in the game, has been decimated. You have desert regions, dilapidated city landscapes and even underground areas richly detailed. The cutscenes are also extremely satisfying and action packed.

The sound effects from explosions, guns effects or swords clanging all sound fantastic. The voice work and acting throughout the game and in cut scenes is also solid. One thing every adventure game needs is a rocking soundtrack to keep you invested and Stellar Blade is no different. The soundtrack is definitely banging with some awesome tracks to play throughout the one screen action.

Stellar Blade has you playing as Eve, a member of Airborne Squad tasked with saving humankind by clearing out the Naytiba that devastated it. Stellar Blade is an action adventure that is rich in both combat, and story.

First let’s talk about the game’s environments. Players will be treated to a nice variety of environments to battle through. You will explore and fight in ruins of past cities, wasteland, underground areas, and even some areas I won’t mention. Each region has different areas to explore to create a massive map to explore. These areas have a large amount of different things to collect from chests, memories, and other collectibles. Different parts of the environments have yellow paint which means you can climb or interact with that area. These yellow parts usually have secret areas to explore. Each map has many different safe areas. These areas are called Supply Camps. These areas are used to regain health, unlock abilities, upgrade swords, drones, unlock costumes and more.

Enemies can’t attack you in these areas, but sitting and restoring your health will respawn enemies. If you die which you will, you usually respawn at one of these camps. Exploring the different locations is one of the highlights of the game. Exploring is both fun and rewarding. You can find some cool costumes, lore or upgrade parts. Areas also have puzzles and side missions to complete for various rewards. There are also parts of the map that can only be accessed after getting new abilities through your adventure.

Players use the left thumb stick to move around the game’s environment. At the start of the game players will start out with a sword. Players will do a light attack with the Square button. Heavy attack is triangle. Holding the triangle button will do a charge attack. The combat is easily a highlight of the game. The basic combat attacks can be combined for powerful combos. Learning to parry attacks is a must for the game. If timed correctly you can stun enemies and leave them open for attacks. The combat is very difficult. Blocking and parrying is a must to stay alive. Parrying will also build up your Beta meter. The Beta meter lets players hold the L1 button and various face buttons for some more powerful attacks. Later in the game players will have access to ranged attacks like shotgun bullets, explosive rounds, homing missiles. The game even has more powerful attacks which I can’t mention or I’ll spoil story elements.

Destroying enemies will give you experience to unlock new abilities, or upgrades to current abilities in various skill trees. Investing in making parries and dodging is a must. This will give a major helping hand for those boss and mini boss battles. The game has a ton of different options for fine tuning accessibility.

Any action adventure is only as good as the enemies you face throughout your game. Stellar

Blade has a large variety of enemies you face. Enemies in Stellar Blade are put in three different groups. All enemies are called Naytiba. Smaller Naytiba enemies are called Minions. These minions are usually smaller and easier to eliminate but still will challenge you in groups. Naytiba Warriors are larger in size that can have more powerful attacks, shoot acid, and more. Elites are basically different mini bosses that will test your skills. Different regions throughout the game will offer different types of each of these enemies. Bosses tower above other enemies in size. Bosses and mini bosses will test your parrying, blocking and other abilities you learned.

The first time you beat a boss after an intense nail biting battle is so satisfying. To see a new console game developer creating a masterpiece like this is amazing. If you love action adventure games with a challenge this is an easy recommendation. This is one of my favourite games of the year.
