Kaha:wi Dance Theatre
CELEBRATING FIFTEEN YEARS SIX NATIONS OF THE GRAND RIVER AND TORONTO
Founded in 2005 by Artistic Director Santee Smith, Kaha:wi Dance Theatre is a 100 per cent Indigenous-led arts organization that creates, produces and tours.
“Our work continues to dismantle stereotypes of what is considered dance and opens up the performing arts ecology to be more reflective of the land on which we express our humanity,” says the organization. Recently, Kaha:wi Dance Theatre and Santee Smith won five awards for The Mush Hole (presented by Young People’s Theatre) at Toronto’s Dora Mavor Moore Awards in the Theatre for Young Audiences Division: Outstanding Production, Outstanding New Play, Outstanding Direction, Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble and Outstanding Achievement in Design (Projection).
