Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre
CELEBRATING FORTY YEARS TORONTO
In 1980, Deborah Lundmark and Michael deConinck Smith founded Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre (CCDT), formerly known as Canadian Children’s Dance Theatre, with the goal of giving young dancers a professional performance education, as opposed to a competitive-based education.
“From its inception, CCDT has endeavoured to not only give young dancers the spotlight in professional productions, but to show the world that youth are an exceptional artistic force to be reckoned with,” says the company. The company has performed works by acclaimed choreographers including Peggy Baker and Serge Bennathan, and during its thirtieth year, it won the Toronto Arts Foundation’s Arts for Youth Award.
