@robertkdancer (Instagram) Very tired of groups of predominantly white people continuing to throw around the word collective despite the increasing obviousness of white institutionalism in the arts. The former BIPOC artistic producer of Dancemakers, was made to leave a position where they were literally hired to unpack that white institutionalism, in an opportune moment of Dancemakers’ gradual and inarguable decline, brought on by the knowledge of the imminent loss of its physical operating space. This post, which literally tags that Black artist who was brought to resign themselves from the anti-racist work they were hired to do, yes this person tagged in a picture full of white dancers, is an absurd example of the work that so desperately needs to be done, which is literally being derailed by the efforts to 'save Dancemakers.' very disappointing to see this, especially after reading the recent statement put out by Dancemakers former artistic director.
