What a beautiful week this is shaping up to be! Many are commenting how soon it seems for the trees and shrubs to be blooming this year. Here’s hoping this early spring brings some showers to help our farmers and gardeners out!

We have lost another long-time resident of Standard. Evelyn Larsen has passed away. Her funeral is May 4 at 1:00 pm at the Hope Covenant Church in Strathmore. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends.

Mark your calendars! “There’s a Monster in My Closet” debuts on May 18 and 19 at 6:30 pm at the Standard Community Hall. Do you have a monster in your closet: Well the elementary students sure do! Come see all the scary creatures at the Annual Elementary musical!

Lots of fun stuff is happening at the Standard Library! The movie matinee this Tuesday, May 3 is “The Good Dinosaur” at 3:30. Next Tuesday’s movie is “Goosebumps”, also at 3:30. Saturday from 3-5 is Free Comic Book Day! It’s a mini comic-con! The first 70 people receive a free comic book. There is a costume contest, you can draw your own comic book, as well as a super hero photo booth. Sounds like lots of fun!

The Standard Playschool is hosting its Open House and Buddy Day on May 17 from 10:00 am until 11:45 am downstairs at the library. Nazareth Lutheran Church invites you to its annual church picnic, Bike-a-thon and Geo-Cache on June 12 beginning with worship at 10:30. The kids from the Campership Program, as part of the program, are required to participate in the Bike-athon and raise pledges. Be on the lookout for a happy camper looking for your pledges! Help us send kids to camp! Last year we sent 25 deserving kids to camp, and we are sending 23 more this year!

The Standard Municipal Library is hosting its second annual Golf Tournament in Bassano on July 15. For more information, contact Mark or Elizabeth at Gates Agencies, if you have a team you want to enter or are able to sponsor a hole!

The NLC youth’s next fundraiser will be a mega garage sale to be held on Sports Day at the church. They are seeking donations of items to sell. Items can be dropped off at the manse next to the church (1002 1st street west) or please call Pastor Dyanna (403644-3998) if you would like them picked up. As always, your donations and support are appreciated! We are almost on our way to PEI!

Elvis update. He re-appeared last week after being gone for 10 days. He showed up a couple of times to eat and drink and he is gone again. We believe he has a second location that he is getting food and water from that must be a fair distance from town. At this point we believe it is somewhere straight east of town. However, it really could be anywhere. If anyone knows his second location it would be helpful for us to make sure he stays safe. Contact Traci Rasmussen or Carolyn Larsen Faqcett if you have any info.

As always, submissions can be made to standard[email protected] or to Pastor Dyanna Couture at 403-644-3998. Please try to have your submissions in by early evening on Sunday!
