The Rockyford Volunteer Firefighter’s will be hosting their Annual Fundraiser on Saturday, May 28. There will be a surf & turf supper, an auction and “Dueling Pianos” as the entertainment for the evening. Tickets are available from any firefighter or from Rockyford Agencies or Rockyford Grocery Store. Things get started with cocktails at 5:30 p.m. with supper and entertainment to follow. Just a reminder that the Rockyford School students will have school on Friday, May 27. Hope everyone enjoys the Ladies Gala this Saturday evening. The Pixilation workshop with QuickDraw Animation Society on April 30 has been re-scheduled to Saturday, May 14. Anyone between the ages of 8 and 18 who is interested in participating in this day-long event is invited to register at the Rockyford Library. Pixilation is the art of creating a stop-motion animated film by taking still shots of people progressing through an action. For a famous example of this art form, check out National Film Board’s “Neighbours” on You Tube.
Join us for a free video-conference about growing food on Wednesday, May 4, from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. at the library. This session is presented by four local Lethbridge groups that will share practices and tips for growing food in Southwest Alberta. Topics will include sustainability, affordability, small space gardens, and growing in alternate spaces like school classrooms.
Interested in learning the what/where/how/why of proper tree and shrub pruning? Drumheller Public Library is hosting a program just for you! Maureen Sexsmith-West, ISA Certified Arborist and owner of Ladybug Arborists will do a presentation on Saturday, May 7 between 9:00 a.m. and noon. This instruction is suitable for both new pruners and those with a solid foundation who are looking to improve their skills. Those attending will also have the opportunity for some handson practice in the afternoon in the Drumheller community.
Strathmore Parent Link is bringing an opportunity for parents and their preschoolers to play and learn together. For six consecutive Tuesday mornings, beginning at 10:00 on May 17, they will be leading the regular Moms ‘ N’ Tots group at the Rockyford Library. Anyone with a child up to the age of five is welcome to join us for what promises to be a fun hour and a half.

Registration is now open for Drama Camp 2016 at the Rockyford Community Centre this summer. Instructors from Calgary Young People’s Theatre (CYPT) will be here Monday through Friday ( July 11 through 15) from 10 until 3 each day to lead participants through various games and activities to develop their skills in acting, improvisation and stage combat. In the afternoons, they will develop their own play, to be performed Friday, July 15, at 3:00 p.m. This program is not just for drama fans. The objective is to provide a safe and creative space for young people to freely express themselves and their ideas, to foster a stronger sense of community and a greater passion and appreciation for the arts. Anyone between the ages of seven and eighteen may register at the Rockyford Library. Please contact the library for more information and/or to register. The Rockyford Library is open Tuesdays (noon to 6:00 p.m.) and Wednesdays/Thursdays (2:00 to 8:00 p.m.).
