Our hearts are indeed heavy with the news of the wildfires that our neighbors to the north are experiencing. Several area residents jumped into the fray, gathering donations to help aid the evacuees in Fort McMurray. With this tragedy comes a province wide fire ban, so please do follow this ban! It truly would be terrible to contribute in any way to the destruction of our beautiful province.
Nazareth Lutheran Church is collecting donations next Sunday, May 15 to support Canadian Lutheran World Relief’s efforts in Fort McMurray. If we miss you in church, you can donate online at www.clwr.org. They have little overhead cost, so the majority of donations go straight to those in need.

A few Standard residents have noticed some mischief and vandalism happening around town, including an incident of arson. If anybody sees anything suspicious please inform Strathmore RCMP. You can also post it on the Standard Neighborhood Watch Facebook page.
Mark your calendars! “There’s a Monster in My Closet” debuts on May 18 and 19 at 6:30 pm at the Standard Community Hall. Do you have a monster in your closet: Well the elementary students sure do! Come see all the scary creatures at the Annual Elementary musical!
The Standard Playschool is hosting its Open House and Buddy Day on May 17 from 10:00 am until 11:45 am downstairs at the library. If you have a child who will be 3 or 4 by December 31, 2016 and wish to find out more please bring them to Buddy Day! More info can be obtained by emailing standard[email protected]mail.com.
Nazareth Lutheran Church invites you to its annual church picnic, Bike-a-thon and Geo-Cache on June 12 beginning with worship at 10:30. The kids from the Campership Program, as part of the program, are required to participate in the Bike-athon and raise pledges. Be on the lookout for a happy camper looking for your pledges! Help us send kids to camp! Last year we sent 25 deserving kids to camp, and we are sending 23 more this year!
The Standard Municipal Library is hosting its second annual Golf Tournament in Bassano on July 15. For more information, contact Mark or Elizabeth at Gates Agencies, if you have a team you want to enter or are able to sponsor a hole!
The NLC youth’s next fundraiser will be a mega garage sale to be held on Sports Day at the church. They are seeking donations of items to sell. Items can be dropped off at the manse next to the church (1002 1st street west) or please call Pastor Dyanna (403-644-3998) if you would like them picked up. As always, your donations and support are appreciated! We are almost on our way to PEI!
