The Badlands Community Facility (BCF) has officially announced its introduction of Seniors Rugby Football Club (RFC).

A senior men’s 3rd division team as well as a senior womens 2nd division team have been created with the intention of a social, fun feel.

Weekly training begins on Tuesday, May 30 at the Drumheller Valley Secondary School (DVSS) football field, starting at 7:30 p.m.

Registrants must be 19 years of age or older to join with no experience necessary. Regardless of fitness or skills, it is meant to give community members the chance to try something new as well as allow rugby alumni to reconnect with the sport.

“People often think that rugby players have to be a part muscle bound ogre but we really want to invite everyone to come and give it a try,” said Badlands RFC board member Allan Mee.

The RFC is now registered with Rugby Canada, Rugby Alberta, and Calgary Rugby Union. Three other club teams have already expressed interest for exhibition games and tournaments.

All equipment required is regular sportswear. Soccer boots are acceptable but if not, runners are fine in the beginning. Remember to be prepared by bringing lots of water and sunscreen.

Mee is excited for the new teams as it gives opportunity to people who normally wouldn’t participate within the area.

“After having to travel well over an hour to other clubs, it will be a real privilege to play for my local town again,” said Mee.

If interested to learn more about registering with the club, like Badlands-RFC on Facebook or contact Badlands RFC vice president April Harrison at 403-820-4553.

Badlands Rugby Football Club (RFC) begins on Tuesday May 30, just in time for the 150th day of the 150th year of Canada’s confederation. These recreational male and female teams are for pure beginners or alumni of the sport. Lessons and practice happen...
