I saw, too late, that I had made a typographical error in last week’s column. In m y r eminiscence of the Jens Jorgensen family I w rote that f or man y ye ars t he f armyard ha s b een the home of C ary and C armen S chneider wher e it should ha ve r ead G ary and C armen. To make m y mistake just a bit mor e c onfusing it should b e noted that Reid and Sheila rais ed Kevin, Carmen and C arrie at the same location. When t hinking of that family I c an’t help but mention what a tragic loss it was when Kevin w as k illed in a f arm ac cident in November of 1985.

A f ew we eks ago I men tioned seeing a Bald Eagle and wondered if it was taking its time in migrating southward.
Well, it is still in the area, I have seen it ag ain from a clo ser viewpoint, and it is inde ed a mag nificent bir d. Anot her sigh ting w as that of a Golden Eagle which was perched on a r oadside fence post where the morning sun produced a lustr ous r eflection a s it pla yed upon t he golden f ringes of t he feathers which g ive c ause f or it s name. From a distance the Golden Eagle appears to be a drab, uninspiring, brown bird but wha t a treat it is t o witness its beauty at close range.
Finally, a not e which st udents returning t o t heir ma th cla sses may find r efreshing: “D ear Algebra, please stop asking us to find your X. She is never coming back and don’t ask Y”.
