Preliminary hearing date set for sexual assault charges
A young man facing charges of sexual interference and sexual assault has scheduled a date for his preliminary hearing.
Anthony Piecowye, 21, of Drumheller was scheduled to appear in provincial court in Drumheller on Friday, January 26.
The Drumheller RCMP received a complaint from a parent in July of last year against a local daycare worker. As a result of a thorough investigation, working with the Sheldon Kennedy Centre and RCMP Major Crimes Unit, a Drumheller man was charged with three counts of sexual assault and three counts of sexual interference.
Piecowye has elected to be tried in Court of Queen’s Bench by judge and jury, and a preliminary hearing has been scheduled for November 29. A preliminary hearing is held by the court to decide whether there is enough evidence to send a case to trial. This procedure is reserved for indictable offences.
