The curling season at the Rumsey rink has come to an official grand ending this past weekend with the conclusion of the Mixed bonspiel. There were 17 teams that entered this past week and enjoyed many great games plus all bonspieling traditions. The bonspiel wrapped up on Saturday night with a delicious banquet from the Country Cookers. After the awards were completed, the crowd was entertained by a great, live band who played old rock from the ‘70’s, ‘80’s and 90’s so there were plenty in the crowd singing along. The Ag Society does not rest though because we are quickly getting ready for the next event, an evening of improvisational comedy on April 7. Tickets are available through Ian Michie. This promises to be a fun night, bring your friends and enjoy a wonderful supper before the fun kicks in.
The winners of this years Mixed Bonspiel were the Shelby Primrose team sponsored by Knievel Insurance of Trochu. They beat out Justin Wolf and his team leaving them in second spot in the first event. Third in the First went to Tracy Nelson’s team and Travis Cawiezel took home fourth. In the Second event: Kent Holowath’s team beat out Cam Demaere’s team for first spot. This event was sponsored by Two Valley View Angus of Rumsey. Third place went to Adam Leischner leaving Mike Steen’s team in the fourth position. In the Third event, Ken McFarlane’s team took home first leaving James Dodd and his crew in second spot. In third and fourth place were Brighten Watt’s team and Curt McNaughton’s team respectively. This event was sponsored by 3D Patchwork of Rumsey. The Rumsey Ag Society would like to send out a big Thank You to all the volunteers, sponsors, caretakers, kitchen workers and curlers for making this another great season. We couldn’t have done it without you!
I talked briefly to Shelby and Katie Primrose this past Saturday, they are very excited about heading to Leduc for the National Championships in Curling on March 24 to 28. I can bet there will be some excellent curling to watch and experience for those girls. Good Luck to our home town champs!
Leah Watts and her ladies team from Stettler had an unusual game this past week. They laid an eight ender during one of the games in the Ladies bonspiel. Quite a feat to accomplish. Here’s a giggle to share: Jeff ’s date with Suzanne was bad from the start – in short, they loathed each other. Fortunately, Jeff had asked his friend to call him so he’d have an excuse to leave if the date wasn’t going well.
When his friend called, Jeff pretended to be in shock, “I have to leave,” Jeff said to Suzanne, “My aunt just died.”
“Thank God,” Suzanne replied, “If yours hadn’t, mine would’ve had to.”
Have a great week.
