What a week of cel­e­bra­tions!! Last Satur­day, June 2 Ce­leste Poland and Lucas Her­nan­dez were mar­ried in Cal­gary and held their re­cep­tion and dance at the Ver­dant Val­ley Com­mu­nity Cen­ter. Ce­leste is the daugh­ter of Mar­cia Poland and grand­daugh­ter of Larry Wayne Poland. Con­grat­u­la­tions and best wishes to the young cou­ple.

This week was spring con­vo­ca­tion at the Univer­sity of Al­berta in Ed­mon­ton. On Thurs­day, June 7, 2018, Deana Nicole Thom of Brooks, daugh­ter of Donna (Shad­lock) Thom and grand­daugh­ter of Fred and Gerri Shad­lock, grad­u­ated with a Bach­e­lor of Sci­ence de­gree in Bi­o­log­i­cal Sci­ences with a Psy­chol­ogy mi­nor. Well done Deana. Con­grat­u­la­tions and best wishes for your fu­ture en­deav­ours. Deana also got to share the stage with Dr. David Suzuki when he re­ceived an hon­orary de­gree from the U of A.

The fol­low­ing day June 8, 2018, Amanda Lynn Hem­ming Ran­dolph and hus­band Brock Robert Ran­dolph grad­u­ated with one hun­dred and fifty class­mates with a de­gree in Medicine from the Univer­sity of Al­berta. With Den­tistry and Phar­macy stu­dents, there were about 500 stu­dents re­ceiv­ing de­grees that day. The day be­fore the grad­u­a­tion the med­i­cal stu­dents re­ceived schol­ar­ship awards. Amanda was awarded the Swarn Par­mar prize in Geriatrics for ex­cel­lence in ge­ri­atric medicine and care for the el­derly. Brock was one of four stu­dents to re­ceive the EW Kei­der Memo­rial Prize in Surgery. Con­grat­u­la­tions and best wishes Dr. Amanda and Dr. Brock Ran­dolph who will be­gin their residency in Ed­mon­ton and ru­ral Ed­mon­ton on July 1. It takes 21 years of school­ing to be­come a doc­tor. A big com­mit­ment.

Clint and Lynn Hem­ming and Ron and Helen Leon­hardt were in Ed­mon­ton for the con­vo­ca­tion of Amanda and Brock. Ron and I had a busy week­end go­ing on Thurs­day evening to an awards night for grand­daugh­ter Jus­tine Schultz who is grad­u­at­ing from Vic­to­ria Com­pos­ite High School next week­end. Jus­tine won high­est marks in English 30-1. On Fri­day we at­tended the con­vo­ca­tion cer­e­monies at the Ju­bilee Au­di­to­rium and then vis­its at the homes of Amanda and Brock Ran­dolph and Ash­ley and Kyle Green. On Satur­day we vis­ited at the home of grand­son Michael and Kelsie Leon­hardt west of Spruce Grove. Satur­day evening we, along with Lynn and Clint, at­tended the ban­quet for the grad­u­at­ing class at the Shaw Con­ven­tion Cen­ter. What a happy and fun week­end for us.

Mon­day, June 4 the Drumheller and District 4H Beef Show and Sale was held in Delia. Young peo­ple from our com­mu­nity tak­ing part were Cam­ryn, Connor, De­laney and Elli-Anna McDougald. Cam­ryn had the re­serve club cham­pion steer for the Delia Club and De­laney had the cham­pion cow/calf pair for the Delia Club. Well done girls. Ca­dynce, Meah and Vanessa Rich­mond daugh­ters of Ron’s nephew Ken Rich­mond were mem­bers of the Rum­sey-Row­ley Club. Meah won re­serve club cham­pion and Vanessa showed the grand cham­pion fe­male of the whole show. In in­ter­club com­pe­ti­tion De­laney McDougald won first in in­ter­me­di­ate show­man­ship, Elli-Anna McDougald won re­serve in ju­nior show­man­ship and Ca­dynce Rich­mond won re­serve in ju­nior groom­ing. The Rum­sey-Row­ley Club won best pen of three. Con­grat­u­la­tions every­one who raised and showed a calf or cow/calf pair. You have done a great job. Also a vote of con­grat­u­la­tions to par­ents and lead­ers for the work done in the 4H clubs.

Happy birth­day this week to Jack­lyn (James) Skytt on June 15, Wylie James on June 16, Kobe Ewing in June 17, Dy­lan James on June 18 and Win­ston Mar­tynes on June 20.
