Congratulations to Brad and Beth Dundas on the birth of their baby girl Oaklie Hope. She was born on June 10, 2018 at 12:45 p.m. and weighed in at 8lbs, 2oz.
Congratulations as well to Blair and Rachel Dundas on the birth of Harper Marie, born at 10:05 a.m., on June 21, weighing 7lb., 8oz. Big sisters Avery and Dawsyn were very excited to welcome this new addition to their family!
Thanks to everyone that entered floats in the parade on Saturday, June 16. The theme this year was the 90th Birthday of Hussar Village. For the community category, the Seniors (ie: 90 year olds) came in 1st place, and Richardson Pioneer came in 2nd place. In the Business category, Chinook Financial took 1st place, and Dundas Oilfield Services took 2nd. In the Machinery category, Ray Latimer with his antique tractors came in 1st place. The Classic Cars category went to Hugh Peake with his precious cargo of local seniors who are 90 years young. For the Horse category, the trick riders took 1st place. In the Miscellaneous category, Mary Murphy (who celebrated her 90th Birthday on Saturday) took 1st in a decorated Red Mustang; and Coyotes Minor Hockey took 2nd place. In the Children’s category, Hussar 4H Multi-Club received 1st place, and Grad 2018 took 2nd place. There is a small prize of money that goes along with these ribbons. Thank you to Clay Armstrong for setting up the order of the parade and to Sandra Vicic for organizing.
Thanks to Kyle Gordon and everyone that helped to put on the ball tournament over Hussar Daze. There were 20 teams entered this year. Thank you as well to the Hussar Lions for all the work they put in over the course of the weekend; and thanks to everyone that supported the Playschool by donating or purchasing from the community garage sale. It was a terrific weekend!
Wheatland Crossing School held an Awards Ceremony on Monday, June 18. Students were honoured with Academic, Athletic, and Citizenship awards. Congratulations to all the award recipients. The following students from Hussar received awards. For individual sports awards, Laura Peake received a volleyball award, Emmitt Filkohazy received a cross country award, and Jason Slemko received a basketball award. Junior High Female Athlete of the Year was Grace Gregory. High School Athletes of the Year were Reese Taubert, and Erin Slemko. For individual subject awards, Teagan Adamcewicz received the highest mark in English 10, and Erin Slemko received the highest mark in Science 10. More than twenty students from Hussar also received certificates and acknowledgement for being on the honour role.
Wheatland Crossing students and staff were treated to a Year-End Barbecue lunch on Tuesday, June 19. The weather was perfect and the food was delicious. Many thanks to George Baxter for donating the burgers and thanks to the staff and parent volunteers for preparing the lunch.
The new Trip kids group held an organizational meeting on Wednesday, June 20. This group will be taking over many of the fundraising jobs that were performed by the current Trip group. The current Trip kids embark on their Mediterranean cruise on July 5. Thanks to everyone for supporting the Trip Club!
