The Ver­dant Val­ley Com­mu­nity is mourn­ing the death of a very spe­cial and loved young woman. Glo­ria Wil­son An­der­son was 41 years old when she passed away on Sun­day, Novem­ber 18, 2018 af­ter a five and a half year coura­geous bat­tle with can­cer and re­lated med­i­cal is­sues. Glo­ria was daugh­ter of Jim and Toni Wil­son, sis­ter of Loretta Wil­son and Der­rick Wil­son and aun­tie to Dalan, Avril and Kasen. She was mar­ried seven years ago to her soul mate, Kelly An­der­son. Her spirit and sunny smile en­deared her to all and her love of life was an ex­am­ple to every­one she en­coun­tered. A ser­vice of Cel­e­bra­tion of Life was held on Satur­day, Novem­ber 24 at the Stam­pede Barn with a ca­pac­ity crowd of fam­ily and friends. Our sym­pa­thy to Kelly and the Wil­son fam­ily and to all who knew and loved Glo­ria.

On Tues­day, Novem­ber 20, the Ver­dant Val­ley Agri­cul­tural So­ci­ety held their An­nual Gen­eral Meet­ing at the Com­mu­nity Cen­ter. The meet­ing, fol­lowed by a Board meet­ing and reg­u­lar meet­ing, re­sulted in four board mem­bers elected for a three year term. They are: John Dun­calf, Shawni Jo James, Brad McDougald and Lyle Rowe. From the twelve board mem­bers the fol­low­ing ex­ec­u­tive was elected : Pres­i­dent – Lyle Rowe; First Vice Pres­i­dent – Brad McDougald; Sec­ond Vice Pres­i­dent – Lo­gan James; Sec­re­tary – Amanda Panisiak; Trea­surer – Shawni Jo James. Fi­nal plans were made for the an­nual Com­mu­nity Christ­mas Party which will be on Sun­day, De­cem­ber 2 at 5:00 p.m. at the Com­mu­nity Cen­ter. A catered turkey and ham sup­per will be served fol­lowed by en­ter­tain­ment and a visit from Santa hand­ing out candy bags to all the chil­dren. There is no charge for the sup­per and every­one from the com­mu­nity with friends and fam­ily is wel­come. Come and start the Christ­mas sea­son with friends and neigh­bours. A new com­mer­cial dish­washer has been in­stalled at the hall. A do­na­tion was made to Sa­mar­i­tan’s Purse in mem­ory of Oswald Orth­ner.

A work party to set up and dec­o­rate the hall for the Christ­mas party will be held on Fri­day, Novem­ber 30 at 6:30 p.m. All mem­bers are asked to turn out to help.

Lynn and Clint Hem­ming are in Ed­mon­ton this week­end to visit daugh­ters Ash­ley and Kyle and Amanda and Brock and at­tend the Grey Cup game and fes­tiv­i­ties.

Con­grat­u­la­tions and best wishes to Fred and Gerri Shad­lock as they cel­e­brated their 60th wed­ding an­niver­sary on Novem­ber 22.

This com­ing week we wish happy birth­day to Carol Dro­tos on Novem­ber 30, Martin Larsen on De­cem­ber 2 and Pam (Ewing) Elzinga on De­cem­ber 5.
