Hussar Ag Society Stag Auction was held on Friday, November 16. Just over $52,000 was raised to help run the arena for another season! Annual operating costs run around $190,000 so the board would like to send a large thanks to all donors and buyers for their support. Thank you to the Hussar Skating Club for taking on the supper planning, and all the volunteers in the kitchen. Thanks to the Chinook Credit Union for the photocopying of the programs and the Hussar Lions for their bar service!
Don Fraser celebrated his 80th birthday with many family and friends at the Sundowners Centre on Sunday November 25. Best wishes for many more healthy happy birthdays Don!
Barb Slemko, CoreyAnn Sandum, Kristin Fandry & Carey Taubert enjoyed a few days in Napa Valley, California taking in a Chocolate pairing at Artesa Winery, a gourmet walking tour, the Wine Train tour and some shopping. They stayed at the River Terrace Inn. The variety of good wines were delicious…. let’s just say a wine suitcase was purchased to come home!
The Hussar Curling Club held their annual Turkey Curl on Friday November 30. There was a terrific turnout and 105 turkeys were won. The curling club appreciates the support every year. For those of you who have not received your turkeys yet, they will be available on the December 14 weekend and the executive will be contacting you for pickup.
Light Up the Night was a beautiful evening on Saturday December 1. The Hussar special events committee began the afternoon with two teams of horses pulling wagons for hay rides and Christmas carols and at 6 p.m. the village donated a free hog dog supper. Thank you to the Hussar 4-H club for serving the supper. The Hussar Fire Department escorted Santa to the event and Santa announced the lighting of the campground at 6 p.m. Santa listened to many children’s wish lists (and some adults too). The community would like to thank Lela Hiebert for organizing this wonderful evening. Special thanks to the Elson McDougald family for bringing their team of horses for the crowd to enjoy. The lights will be on every night until January 1. Proceeds from this evening were donated to the Emma Arm- strong Memorial Fund.
Kristen and Peter Anderson attended the Model T Christmas party in Calgary on December 1. They enjoyed a nice meal and evening of socializing Mrs. Claus and Elfie surprised the group and passed out Christmas gifts in Santa’s absence.
The trip kids fundraiser group were selling memorial luminaries at Light Up the Night and this group would like to thank everyone for their support as the whole first row of the campground was lined in luminaries. They also donated half of their proceeds to the Emma Armstrong Memorial Fund.
Marie and Nicky Faye spent a week in Houston touring the area and visiting with Marie’s brother and sister in law Garry and Linda Kaiser.
Christmas Hamper donations can be dropped off at Chinook Financial until December 15.
