First of all, thanks to all who helped in any way to make the Christmas Day dinner another success.

It is a lot of work prior to the event, and everyone involved in organizing deserves a shout out for all they do each year.

Amy and Mike Yavis are so kind and generous to offer their restaurant for the event, and many of their staff are in to help with the prep work, the number of willing volunteers who give so freely of their time to ensure guests are treated well, and come to enjoy a tasty meal.

The people who man the "dish pit" are indispensable and a key part of the operation, as are the drivers taking meals to those who prefer to enjoy the meal at home. There are so many people who donate money, turkeys and edibles to the event as well, and readers can tell we are purposely avoiding naming names as we would surely miss someone, but you all know who you are.

The dinner has grown steadily over the years, and we are well into serving the mid 400's each year now and it continues to be an absolute pleasure to host everyone, probably because those who come are always in a good mood that day.

Again, thanks to everyone for helping, it means a lot to the community, and we will see you again next year.

Sad to hear of the passing of longtime friend Brian Zacharuk, who we worked with on a couple of renovation projects a long time ago. He taught us more than a bit of carpentry, plus some words we hadn't heard before, and had a wonderful sense of humour.

Sympathy to his family, Brian was one of the good guys.

Rest easy, old friend.

We have told our friend Norma West to stay out of bar fights, but she just won't listen. She was in hospital for a stay to get better with the help of her many friends and family members, out now and enjoyed the

Christmas season with her usual enthusiasm. Nice to see you around again, Norma.

Betty Eremko was an absolute delight to know over the years and if anyone ever defines 'nice person', Betty's picture will be there.

The world needs more Betty Eremko's in it and she will be missed by her family and her many friends.

Rest easy, old friend.
