Donna and Marvin Sevcik enjoyed taking in the Drumheller Music Festival where their granddaughter Susanne was a participant. She won the Drumheller Rotary Club award for vocalists in the 16-19 year old category, the Hazel Bilson Memorial Trophy for highest mark 16 years and over in Musical Theatre solos and will now go on to Provincials with her performances in May. Susanne is a very talented musician and we wish her well.
Kim Sandum, Dianne Taubert, Traci Rasmussen and Dawn Faubian attended “Home from Away,” at the Jubilee Auditorium on Saturday, March 23 and said it was a wonderful performance. It was about the people who were stranded in Gander, Newfoundland after the tragedy of 9-11.
Our sympathy goes out to Ted and Jackie Sandum and all the Sandum families on the loss of Ted’s sister Norma Hall. Norma was born and raised at Hussar and passed away on Saturday, March 23.
Congratulations to Brendan Fraser who has completed and passed all his examinations and is now a Red Seal Carpenter.
Best wishes to Niels and Barb Larsen on their move to Strathmore. Both were born and raised at Hussar and they will sure be missed. We know they will welcome visitors.
Tom and Stacey Fraser travelled to Edmonton to watch their son Shane play in the final round of Alberta College hockey playoffs. They lost out in double overtime.
On Thursday, March 28, the Hussar Library Board put on a very informative evening with Peace Officer, Constable Dean Young from Strathmore speaking on Cyber Safety. Although there wasn’t a big crowd in attendance, those were there were made aware of many things.
On Friday, March 29 many people attended the celebration of life for Shirley Kirkpatrick. Condolences to Doug, Sherri and family and Ryan and family. She will be missed by many and never forgotten.
The Hussar Curling Club hosted their mixed bonspiel from March 24 to March 30, the curling club would like to thank all the teams that entered both out of town and local. This was an amazing bonspiel and hosted 22 teams. Congratulations to the Chris Bartsch Rink from Milo on winning the bonspiel. Gary Young from Bassano was second. The winners of the B event were the Shane Fladhamer rink from Bassano, and 2nd in the B was the Adam West rink from Strathmore. Winners of the C event were the Kevin Robertson rink from Strathmore and 2nd in the C event was our local Kevin Slemko Rink, with Tyler and Lana Armstrong, Kevin and Barb Slemko. Thanks to everyone who works behind the scenes to make this bonspiel so much fun.
The Hussar Hall Board put on an 80’s theme dance on Saturday, March 30 with the Hussar Curling Club. The costumes were amazing and it was so nice to see how many people came out to have a great evening. Congrats to Kyle Gordon for winning the best dressed for the evening. Thank you to everyone who attended the 80’s dance. It was a great night. The Hussar Curling Club drew their annual raffle for a TV and it was won by Jerry Christmas of Bassano.
The Ag Society will be selling cash calendars for the month of May. Tickets are available at Richardson Pioneer as well as the Ag Society members. We are fundraising for a new ice plant for our Arena the budget has come in at $600,000 and so we are looking for community support to make this fundraiser a success.
The 4H is selling their beef raffle tickets. You have a chance to win one of the three prizes: $800, $500, or $250 beef package. The draw will be at the Hussar 4H Show and Sale on May 26. Contact your local 4H kids to get some tickets for a great prize.
Wheatland Crossing Senior High Students will be competing in Badminton Counties on Wednesday, Good Luck to all students going.

The Standard Lionettes are having their annual Ladies Night April 13 at the Standard Community Hall. This years’ theme is Garden Party featuring comedians Natalie Johnstone and Jessica Belbin, music my Mary Ann Oxtoby and catering by BubbaQ. The Hike for Hospice is coming up on Sunday, May 5 in Strathmore. Many of the seniors are going to participate again and wonder if there is anyone else wanting to walk for a good cause. You can walk individually or as a team, and can take the walk around Kinsmen Lake or the longer one which includes the loop around Grays Park. Please contact Kay Fraser if you are interested.
