Donna and Marvin Sev­cik en­joyed tak­ing in the Drumheller Mu­sic Fes­ti­val where their grand­daugh­ter Su­sanne was a par­tic­i­pant. She won the Drumheller Ro­tary Club award for vo­cal­ists in the 16-19 year old cat­e­gory, the Hazel Bil­son Memo­rial Tro­phy for high­est mark 16 years and over in Mu­si­cal Theatre so­los and will now go on to Provin­cials with her per­for­mances in May. Su­sanne is a very tal­ented mu­si­cian and we wish her well.

Kim San­dum, Dianne Taubert, Traci Ras­mussen and Dawn Faubian at­tended “Home from Away,” at the Ju­bilee Au­di­to­rium on Satur­day, March 23 and said it was a won­der­ful per­for­mance. It was about the peo­ple who were stranded in Gan­der, New­found­land after the tragedy of 9-11.

Our sym­pa­thy goes out to Ted and Jackie San­dum and all the San­dum fam­i­lies on the loss of Ted’s sis­ter Norma Hall. Norma was born and raised at Hus­sar and passed away on Satur­day, March 23.

Con­grat­u­la­tions to Brendan Fraser who has com­pleted and passed all his ex­am­i­na­tions and is now a Red Seal Car­pen­ter.

Best wishes to Niels and Barb Larsen on their move to Strath­more. Both were born and raised at Hus­sar and they will sure be missed. We know they will wel­come vis­i­tors.

Tom and Stacey Fraser trav­elled to Ed­mon­ton to watch their son Shane play in the fi­nal round of Al­berta Col­lege hockey play­offs. They lost out in dou­ble over­time.

On Thurs­day, March 28, the Hus­sar Li­brary Board put on a very in­for­ma­tive evening with Peace Of­fi­cer, Con­sta­ble Dean Young from Strath­more speak­ing on Cy­ber Safety. Al­though there wasn’t a big crowd in at­ten­dance, those were there were made aware of many things.

On Fri­day, March 29 many peo­ple at­tended the cel­e­bra­tion of life for Shirley Kirk­patrick. Con­do­lences to Doug, Sherri and fam­ily and Ryan and fam­ily. She will be missed by many and never for­got­ten.

The Hus­sar Curl­ing Club hosted their mixed bon­spiel from March 24 to March 30, the curl­ing club would like to thank all the teams that en­tered both out of town and lo­cal. This was an amaz­ing bon­spiel and hosted 22 teams. Con­grat­u­la­tions to the Chris Bartsch Rink from Milo on win­ning the bon­spiel. Gary Young from Bas­sano was se­cond. The win­ners of the B event were the Shane Flad­hamer rink from Bas­sano, and 2nd in the B was the Adam West rink from Strath­more. Win­ners of the C event were the Kevin Robert­son rink from Strath­more and 2nd in the C event was our lo­cal Kevin Slemko Rink, with Tyler and Lana Arm­strong, Kevin and Barb Slemko. Thanks to ev­ery­one who works be­hind the scenes to make this bon­spiel so much fun.

The Hus­sar Hall Board put on an 80’s theme dance on Satur­day, March 30 with the Hus­sar Curl­ing Club. The cos­tumes were amaz­ing and it was so nice to see how many peo­ple came out to have a great evening. Con­grats to Kyle Gor­don for win­ning the best dressed for the evening. Thank you to ev­ery­one who at­tended the 80’s dance. It was a great night. The Hus­sar Curl­ing Club drew their an­nual raf­fle for a TV and it was won by Jerry Christ­mas of Bas­sano.

The Ag So­ci­ety will be sell­ing cash cal­en­dars for the month of May. Tick­ets are avail­able at Richard­son Pi­o­neer as well as the Ag So­ci­ety mem­bers. We are fundrais­ing for a new ice plant for our Arena the bud­get has come in at $600,000 and so we are look­ing for com­mu­nity sup­port to make this fundraiser a suc­cess.

The 4H is sell­ing their beef raf­fle tick­ets. You have a chance to win one of the three prizes: $800, $500, or $250 beef pack­age. The draw will be at the Hus­sar 4H Show and Sale on May 26. Con­tact your lo­cal 4H kids to get some tick­ets for a great prize.

Wheat­land Cross­ing Se­nior High Stu­dents will be com­pet­ing in Bad­minton Coun­ties on Wed­nes­day, Good Luck to all stu­dents go­ing.

Ben and Terry Arm­strong would like to in­vite Fam­ily and friends to help them cel­e­brate their 50th Wed­ding An­niver­sary on April 6 at the Hus­sar Com­mu­nity Hall at 8:00 p.m.

The Standard Lionettes are hav­ing their an­nual Ladies Night April 13 at the Standard Com­mu­nity Hall. This years’ theme is Gar­den Party fea­tur­ing co­me­di­ans Natalie John­stone and Jes­sica Bel­bin, mu­sic my Mary Ann Ox­toby and cater­ing by Bub­baQ. The Hike for Hospice is com­ing up on Sun­day, May 5 in Strath­more. Many of the se­niors are go­ing to par­tic­i­pate again and won­der if there is any­one else want­ing to walk for a good cause. You can walk in­di­vid­u­ally or as a team, and can take the walk around Kins­men Lake or the longer one which in­cludes the loop around Grays Park.
