Delia Senior News
Isn’t it nice to look out your window and see grass (albeit not green yet) where snowbanks were a few weeks ago? We didn’t get the late snowstorm that Calgary had this week, so Delia gardeners will be out in full force raking lawns and getting yards cleaned up for the season. It won’t be long before Communities in Bloom will be putting out bedding out plants to brighten up the Village.
Here are some events happening over the next month or two in Delia to mark on your calendar... April 16 of course was the provincial election, voting in Delia was at the Community Hall on Tuesday, so there was no bingo in the hall on Tuesday night -for this week only. Bingo returns on April 23, but on April 16 I hope you all got out and voted for the candidate of your choice.
The memorial for Rick Fair will take place on Saturday, May 11, at 2 p.m., in the Delia Community Centre.
April 18 is pot luck at the Drop In Centre, bring a dish and join the members for lunch at noon sharp. Every Tuesday and Thursday is coffee morning at the Drop In Centre, everyone is encouraged to stop in for coffee, join in a game of cards or pool if you like, and have a visit with your neighbors. The general meeting at the Drop In was held on Thursday morning, when plans were discussed for summer activities. The next general meeting will be held on Thursday, May 9, at 10 a.m. Everyone is welcome to attend. The next Birthday party for members and guests having birthdays in April, May or June will be held on Wednesday, May 22 at 2 p.m. with Doreen and Eva as hostesses. Mark your calendar.
Robyn Thompson-Lake has been officially acclaimed as the new Village Councillor for the Village of Delia, following the resignation of Councillor Dawn Bancroft. Congratulations Robyn, enjoy your new position
The Elks Pancake Breakfast will be held on May 12- Mother’s Day- in the Community Centre from 9 until noon. As it is also Mother’s Day, this will be a special treat for Mom, so take her out for breakfast and win some brownie points.
The Delia Library will be closed April 19 - 26. See you again on April 29. Happy Easter.
Happy Birthday in the coming weeks in April to Joan Morrison, Eva Nielsen, Eric Andersen, Travis Friedley, Carol Sisley and Linda Karg. Hope your day is awesome.
I am taking a break from writing this column for a while, as I have some time consuming projects lined up for the Spring and Summer, which will keep me busy. If some one would like to take over writing the column, that would be great. For now, then, have yourself a wonderful Easter.
Enjoy your summer, take care and have a fun summer!
