Greetings & Salutations! Here’s what’s new this week in the Standard Community…
What’s funner than a field trip? Not much! The Standard Municipal Library has once again been the recipient of a grant from WFCSS to provide this event. Kids age 8 & up are invited to join in on Thursday, July 25 to visit Rosebud Valley Honey, EH Farms (Pigs & Chickens), and a local Hutterite Colony. Library membership not required, but as always encouraged! Registration & permission slip required by Saturday, July 20. For more information please call Adreena at 403 644 3995, or stop in at the library.
Did you know… Bees have 5 eyes and 6 legs. Honey bees harvest nectar and pollen from flowering plants. Male bees in the hive are called drones and they do not have a stinger. Worker bees are females. They do all the different tasks needed to operate and maintain the hive. Honey bees live in large groups called colonies, and an average beehive can hold around 50,000 bees.
Quote of the week… “Nothing beats an exciting hands-on experience to deepen learning. The magic of a field trip isn’t just the subject. It’s a break in routine and adventure that opens up children’s minds to new things.” – Anonymous
