Diwali celebrated
Friends and family celebrated the Hindu festival of Diwali at the Drumheller Legion on Saturday night, where dozens gathered to eat, give and receive gifts, and celebrate the major holiday. Veronique Ram, one of the organizers, says the event celebrates family, friends, and “prosperity,” and with the second annual public event this weekend, has garnered more interest from people in Drumheller and the area. Diwali is the Hindu “festival of lights,” an ancient festival and a celebration of the triumph of light over darkness, where celebrants decorate their homes with candles or lamps, wear their fine dress, and pray for prosperity and wealth.
