Drag­ons split on week­end road trip

The Drag­ons headed north for a road trip armed with a new slate of goal­tenders for the week­end.

The Dagons shuf­fled their line-up last week be­fore head­ing north to play Dray­ton Val­ley and Spruce Grove.

The Drag­ons dealt goal­tender Cale El­der to the Kin­der­s­ley Klip­pers of the Saskatchew­an Ju­nior Hockey League for fu­ture con­sid­er­a­tions. He suited up for 10 games with the Drag­ons this sea­son.

The Drag­ons also picked up Colin Ah­ern from the Soo Thun­der­birds from Sault Ste. Marie of the North­ern On­tario Hockey Ju­nior League. The Wis­con­sin na­tive left the Thun­der­birds with a 2.59 GGA and a .915 SV%.

The Drag­ons also saw the re­as­sign­ment of goal­tender Brett Balas to the Drag­ons from the Spokane Chiefs of the

WHL.

Balas got the start on Fri­day, Novem­ber 8 when the Drag­ons took on the Spruce Grove Saints.

The Drag­ons started strong with Kasey Hiem­stra open­ing the scor­ing short­handed. Four min­utes later Carter Belit­ski scored, putting the Drag­ons up filephoto

2-0 in the first pe­riod. Spruce Grove an­swered back eight min­utes into the second pe­riod, but Scout Tru­man added to the Drag­ons’ lead.

In the third pe­riod, Der­rick Budz put the Drag­ons up 4-1. The Saints made it a lit­tle closer, but Eric Mar­tin scored on the empty net to make it 5-2 and out of reach. Balas stopped 29 shots.

On Satur­day, Novem­ber 9, the Drag­ons were in Dray­ton Val­ley to take on the Thun­der. This time they started Ah­ern be­tween the posts.

This time the Thun­der struck first, and were up 2-0 be­fore Brady Risk scored 2:25 into the second pe­riod, the Drag­ons tied it in the third with a pow­er­play goal from Hiem­stra, but the Dray­ton Val­ley Thun­der went up 3-2 at the 7:42 mark. Thun­der scored an empty-net goal to put it out of reach. Ah­ern stopped 28 shots.

On Tues­day, Novem­ber 12, the Drag­ons hosted the Can­more Ea­gles, re­sults not avail­able at press time.
