Pur­suit near Car­bon ends in ar­rests, two charged

A man and a woman from Red Deer are in cus­tody and are fac­ing charges fol­low­ing an at­tempted ve­hi­cle theft and pur­suit in the Car­bon area.

On Thurs­day, Novem­ber 21, Drumheller RCMP was no­ti­fied a ve­hi­cle had just been stolen from Car­bon, Al­berta. A sus­pect male driv­ing an­other stolen ve­hi­cle used vi­o­lence by driv­ing his ve­hi­cle re­peat­edly to­ward a wit­ness who was try­ing to in­ter­vene with the theft.

The male sus­pect was aid­ing a fe­male who was steal­ing the ve­hi­cle.

Drumheller RCMP was able to lo­cate the male and fe­male in the stolen ve­hi­cle shortly af­ter and en­tered into a pur­suit when the ve­hi­cle fled from po­lice. With the as­sis­tance of Beiseker RCMP, the pur­suit con­tin­ued un­til the ve­hi­cle came to a stop near Car­bon where both oc­cu­pants were ar­rested by RCMP.

Kevin Leo Gal­lagher, 35, of Red Deer was wanted on war­rants out of La­combe, Al­berta. He was pro­hib­ited from driv­ing, bound by pre­vi­ous court-im­posed con­di­tions, and charged with dan­ger­ous oper­a­tion of a mo­tor ve­hi­cle, flight from peace of­fi­cer, rob­bery, two counts of pos­ses­sion of prop­erty ob­tained by crime over $5,000, three counts of pos­ses­sion of prop­erty ob­tained by crime un­der $5,000, theft of a mo­tor ve­hi­cle, iden­tity theft, im­proper use of a li­cense plate, driv­ing while pro­hib­ited, pos­ses­sion of am­mu­ni­tion while pro­hib­ited and three breaches of re­cog­ni­zance.

Court­ney Dar­lene Reid, 22, of Red Deer was charged with dan­ger­ous oper­a­tion of a mo­tor ve­hi­cle, flight from peace of­fi­cer, rob­bery, two counts of pos­ses­sion of prop­erty ob­tained by crime over $5,000, Three counts of pos­ses­sion of prop­erty ob­tained by crime un­der $5,000, theft of a mo­tor ve­hi­cle, iden­tity theft and im­proper use of a li­cence plate.

Gal­lagher and Reid were held for a ju­di­cial in­terim re­lease hear­ing and sub­se­quently re­manded into cus­tody.

With the cold weather upon us, Drumheller RCMP would like to re­mind the public not to leave their ve­hi­cles idling unat­tended.
