A Brantford man who was found by police sleeping at the wheel of a car parked on Chatham Street was in court recently to deal with more than a dozen charges.

Last June, Jesse Colt Bradford, 35, was awaken by an officer, who noted that Bradford had an unopened can of beer between his legs.

When asked his name, Bradford gave the officer a false identity. When Bradford was arrested for obstructing the officer, he was found to have a small amount of crystal methamphetamine and clonazepam pills.

In Ontario Court, Bradford pleaded guilty to possession of an illegal substance, obstructing a police officer and failing to keep his bail conditions.

He also pleaded guilty to nine other charges: two counts of breaking his probation orders in September 2016; possession of an illegal substance, breaking probation orders and obstructing police in July; breaking his bail conditions in September; and missing court dates last May, July and October.

Seven other charges were withdrawn.

Bradford was sentenced last month by Justice Robert Gee to 30 days in jail on top of the 170 days he was credited with having served already.

He’ll have to pay $ 1,200 in victim surcharge fines and remain on probation a further two years.

Assaulted officer, man gets time served

An Ohsweken man who faced 18 charges from July 15, 2016, to March 10 of this year pleaded guilty to nine charges and was sentenced in Ontario Court last month to time served.

Justin Wayne LaForme, 28, admitted he caused a major disturbance last July when he damaged a vehicle on Fourth Line on Six Nations. He was still shouting and yelling when police arrived at 11: 30 a. m. Intoxicated, he kicked and spit at officers.

He pleaded guilty to causing a disturbance, threatening death or bodily harm and assaulting a police officer.

He also pleaded guilty to assaulting an officer and breaking his probation orders on Dec. 21 and mischief under $ 5,000 from a charge on Dec. 28.

Last March, LaForme attacked a woman from whom he had been ordered to stay away. He pleaded guilty to assault, breaking bail orders and resisting arrest after he damaged a Brantford police cruiser.

Justice Robert Gee sentenced Laforme to time he had already served, calculating it at about 140 days. Nine other charges were withdrawn.

LaForme will remain on probation for a further two years and pay $ 900 in victim surcharge fines.
