Hydro One expands in Haldimand

The Expositor (Brantford) - - NEWS -

Hydro One is following through on a plan to establish a new operations centre in Haldimand County.

The provincial utility is responsible for the distribution of electricity in Haldimand.

In 2015, Hydro One identified the need for an operations centre on the east side of the municipality to address a service shortfall in the area.

In a news release, the municipality said is working closely with Hydro One to identify a suitable development site within Dunnville.

Representatives of Hydro One recently met with Haldimand Mayor Ken Hewitt to discuss the proposed development.

“Haldimand County is pleased to be working closely with Hydro One on this project, which will see new and positive growth for our community,” Hewitt said. “We are looking forward to the development of the new Hydro One operations centre in Dunnville.”

The Hydro One complex will include a new building of about 15,000 square feet and bring about 20 new jobs to the community.

Once a site has been selected and a conditional agreement-of-purchase and sale is in place, the design and engineering phase will begin.

Construction is expected to start in 2020 and be completed in early 2021.
