The number of seniors using food banks is up. In my view, this is due to the Bank of Canada and other central banks driving interest rates to record lows. The reckless policy has led seniors to spend their principal savings because there’s no interest income. Anyone criticizing seniors for not saving enough is off the mark. Ultra cheap money has allowed for spendthrift governments and asset bubbles to be blown everywhere, all on the backs of savers. Bill Klomps, Bayfield, Ont.
