ARE THE Christ­mas carols and Santa suits get­ting to be a bit much at this time of year? Here are some shows to cel­e­brate the sea­son with­out the hol­i­day mo­tifs.

PI­ANO QUAR­TET FAVOURITES (Novem­ber 29 and 30 at West Point Grey United Church and De­cem­ber 2 at Py­att Hall) In this serene Vetta Cham­ber Mu­sic con­cert, Jane Hayes takes the keys for the likes of Gus­tav Mahler and Wolf­gang Amadeus Mozart. Vi­o­lin­ist Joan Black­man, vi­o­list Yariv Aloni, and cel­list Brian Yoon join her.

THE LION, THE WITCH, AND THE WARDROBE (From Novem­ber 30 to De­cem­ber 29 at Pa­cific The­atre) En­ter the win­try won­der­land through a closet in the Peven­sie house­hold in this spare but sparkling adap­ta­tion of C.S. Lewis’s tale, by Ron Reed. Sarah Rodgers di­rects.

VI­VALDI’S FOUR SEA­SONS (At the Chan Cen­tre for the Per­form­ing Arts on De­cem­ber 21 and 22) Fas­tris­ing young Amer­i­can vi­o­lin­ist Ben­jamin Beil­man (shown here) dis­plays his sizzling stuff, join­ing the Van­cou­ver Sym­phony Or­ches­tra for the beloved Baroque con­cer­tos.
